AFAS Standard Assistance
AFAS Standard Assistance may be either a no-interest loan or grant. It is intended to stabilize financial emergencies such as basic living expenses (rent, utilities, food), funeral expenses, pay/allotment problems, disasters, vehicle repair, etc. A budget is required and payment is made to the final vendor/recipient (i.e. landlord for rent, mechanic for car repairs, etc.).
The Falcon Loan
The Falcon Loan is a no-interest loan to provide Airmen with expedited financial assistance up to $1,500. This loan is intended for emergency situations such as rent or utility bills, child care, vehicle expenses, etc. Less information is required to apply.
Emergency Travel
Emergency Travel goes directly through American Red Cross. They can be reached at (877)-272-7337. Service member will need to be placed in emergency leave status and have a copy of their AF Form 988 (leave form). This form will need to be submitted to American Red Cross prior to receiving assistance.
Apply for AFAS Loan Services
Apply for loan services online at https://portal.afas.org/ea-eligibility/. Once your application is complete and submitted, a caseworker with AFAS Headquarters will contact you directly. If you do not hear from them within 24 hours please call (703) 972-2604.
Members will use the new portal to request assistance. You can find instructions to apply using the new AFAS member portal here: Member Portal Instructions and the supporting documents needed here: Application Required Documents.
           *         Members will have to create a new login and password with this new portal. They stress using a personal email address to ensure receipt of emails from AFAS.
           *         Members should check their spam folder for application confirmation, communication, and agreement to repay the loan when applying as AFAS will coordinate via email or phone.
           *         Members should answer phone calls from area codes 703 or 571 as their caseworker may be trying to contact them.
           *         If member receives an error of any type, this usually means the members account has been locked. They must contact AFAS (703)-972-2604 to get it unlocked.

Programs
AFAS Education Support
AFAS Education Support offers college grants, scholarships, and supplemental education loans to eligible Air Force dependents/spouses. The Arnold Education Grant Program is the most popular with $500 to $4,000 grants awarded each year based on student financial need. The grant application process opens in January and closes in April. Get more information on the AFAS Education Support page.
Give Parents a Break Childcare
Give Parents a Break Childcare offers eligible families a monthly child care break for a few hours away from the stresses of parenting during deployments, remote tours, extended working hours, etc. For more information, check out the Give Parents a Break page.
Child Care for PCS Program
Child Care for PCS Program provides assistance for families in the process of a PCS move to/from Hill AFB. AFAS pays up to 20 hours child care (per child) in certified Family Child Care homes on and off base. Stop by the M&FRC for a voucher (must provide orders) and find a provider on the Family Child Care page.
Bundles for Babies
Bundles for Babies teaches parents basic parenting and financial skills to help them care and budget for their new baby. After completing the class, eligible parents will receive an AAFES gift card to help purchase some baby essentials.Â
